Sunday Scoops 07/23/23

It’s Sunday, which means it's time to talk about all the newest gaming news this week

By: Evan1Sonic. This week has been a steady one for news, with Xbox Live Gold being replaced by Game Pass Core, The Borderlands movie getting a release date, and much more.

Xbox Game Pass Core revealed and will replace Live Gold. Earlier this week, Xbox announced that a new subset of Game Pass, Core, will be replacing Live Gold. Via an Xbox blog post “Game Pass Core is the evolution of Xbox Live Gold. Game Pass Core will give players access to our advanced multiplayer network, a select collection of over 25 games to play with friends around the world, and exclusive member deals, all for $9.99 USD per month or $59.99 USD per year.” That collection of games includes Dishonored 2, Doom Eternal, Gears 5, Ori & The Will of the Wisps, and more. New titles will be added to this collection 2-3 times a year. Games with Gold will have one more month of free games before coming to an end on September 1st, 2023. Any Xbox One titles redeemed through the program can be played through an existing Game Pass subscription. Xbox 360 games, on the other hand, can be accessed regardless of subscription status. Current Live Gold members will automatically become Game Pass Core members on September 14th, 2023, when the new service begins. We’ve been writing and recapping Games with Gold announcements each month since Elevate Games started, so it’s sad to see those cease to exist from this point forward. However, this new replacement seems like an overdue fresh start in the Game Pass family.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Story Trailer and PS5 Console Showcased. As part of a special San Diego Comic-Con panel on the game, a new story trailer and limited Edition Console were revealed. This trailer, which you can watch here, showcased a first look at Harry Osborn, another glimpse of Kraven as well as the Lizard, and a whole lot of Venom. The story of this sequel is looking to be a lot darker than the first game, with the symbiote bringing out Peter Parker's darkness. A limited-edition PS5 bundle coming with its own controller and custom design featuring the symbiote consuming Spider-Man’s shiny red and turning it pure black was also announced. Sony will sell the same console covers and controller separately if you already own a PS5 and are eyeing the new design. The console covers for both disc and digital-only versions of the PS5, as well as the controller and bundle, will all go up for preorder on July 28th, 2023. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 releases for PS5 on October 20th, 2023.
