The Biggest Reveals from Day of the Devs

By: Evan1Sonic. From Beastieball to Cocoon, here is a recap of all the big announcements shown at the Day of the Devs event in June.

Beastieball is an open-world, turn-based RPG game from Wishes Unlimited. Friendly creatures with a love of the volleyball-esque sport Beastieball roam the world of this title. Recruiting all kinds of Beasties to play on your team is how you set out on the path to Beastieball victory. The Beasties on your roster can become friends, rivals, or even lovers with their teammates. This allows team-up combos and special abilities to be unleashed against your opponents. Coach a team of Beasties and rise to the top of the rankings when Beastieball releases on PC next year.

Hyper Light Breaker is an open-world roguelike game from Heart Machine. This first Hyper Light venture into the 3D space sets you in a forgotten land. This world, dubbed the Overgrowth, is a mix of hand-crafted and procedurally generated elements that ensures you won’t return to the same world twice. Explore vast open landscapes full of gruesome baddies to destroy and secrets to discover alone or with friends when Hyper Light Breaker launches in early access on PC later this year.

Some other announcements at this event consisted of a new trailer for Eternights, which is coming to PS4, PS5, and PC this September, and Cart Life making a return to PC and consoles later this year. Design and build space rovers on Mars when Mars First Logistics hits Steam early access on June 22nd, 2023. Using ghostly powers to possess what's around you, traverse a mysterious world in Hauntii, which releases for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Switch, and PC next year.

Viewfinder is a puzzle platformer game from Sad Owl Studios. With an instant camera, you can alter perception, redefine reality, and change the environment in this adventure. After taking a photo of the world with this camera and printing it out, it may then be laid over the real world to alter it. Solve a variety of puzzles with this innovative mechanic when Viewfinder releases for PS5 and PC on July 18th, 2023. A free demo is also out now on PS5.

Helskate is a roguelike game from Phantom Coast. In this title, you play as Anton, who sets out to skate across the demon realm of Vertheim, performing tricks and combos along the way. The locals see you as a threat, but thankfully, you have weapons you can make good use of to defeat any skaters that stand in your way. Arcade-style skating mechanics and a UI reminiscent of games like Tony Hawk's Underground are both highlights. Skate your way through the underworld on a quest to become the greatest skater Vertheim has ever seen when Helskate launches on PC in the future.

Other reveals at this event include Summerhill, a new story-driven puzzle game from the creators of the Alto series; Simpler Times, a cozy story-focused experience with no stress; and Été, a beautiful painting adventure that’s coming to PC early next year. Henry Halfhead was revealed with a gameplay demo showcasing half of a head embodying stuff in the world to check off challenges in goofy ways. Last but not least, Saltsea Chronicles has you commandeering a ship in order to rescue your misfit crew’s captain in a post-flood world when it releases on PS5, Switch, and PC later this year.

Cocoon is a puzzle adventure game from Geometric Interactive. In this atmospheric adventure, you take on the role of an insect hatchling that explores layered worlds in order to unravel a mystery. You can jump in and out of these worlds freely using a cocoon gateway that you carry on your back. Maneuvering this gateway across parts of the world to find new areas is where the title gets complex. You're not the only one in this world; however, disturbing creatures you can only defeat by using this world-jumping mechanic in clever ways are around many dark corners. Solve tricky puzzles and defeat horrifying foes when Cocoon releases on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch, and PC later this year.

You can watch the full event here. This event was great and provided a great look at some wonderful indie titles coming soon. My favorite game shown at this event was Henry Halfhead. With an incredible premise, a pretty art style, and a long list of challenges to complete, I can’t wait to learn more about this half-headed adventure. What was your favorite? Let me know in the comments below. It’s that summer season of gaming, so keep tuned in to Elevate Games for all the biggest news and event recaps all summer long.

I hope you enjoyed and Game On!!
