What Ya Playing 07/06/22

Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course is a run-and-gun action game from Studio MDHR. I finished the DLC and defeated a secret boss on the new island. I adore Cuphead, and I'm proud of myself for defeating the game's final boss. The Delicious Last Course brings new levels, bosses, weapons, charms, and a new character to the game. The new bosses and levels all have stunning visuals, and the animations are a big improvement over the base game. The new playable character included in this DLC, Ms. Chalice, has a different moveset from Cuphead and Mugman and feels wonderful. She has a new super, ground roll dodge, and four health points. She can also double jump and her parry is automatically activated during a dodge. Playing as Ms. Chalice feels unique compared to playing as the other cups because of all these abilities. While playing as her does make the game a little bit easier since you don't have to worry about tapping the dodge button at the proper times during a fight, each battle is not suddenly a cakewalk when playing as her. Some of the bosses I encountered on this island turned out to be more difficult for me than some of the base game's final bosses. Although I haven't used any of the new charms or weapons, they should slightly change the gameplay if they're anything like the others. Battling what is most likely the only secret boss on Inkwell Isle four was a unique experience due to the bosses’ attack patterns. I won’t spoil this boss other than stating you’ll have to solve a graveyard puzzle outside of the levels to access it, but if you pick the DLC, you should go out of your way to experience it. While the length could leave something to be desired, this DLC is just more Cuphead, and if you liked the base game, you’ll love it. Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course is available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Switch, and PC.

Quick Play is this section of What Ya Playing where I share some of my short thoughts on games I’ve been playing lately.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge. I finished the campaign, and while most of my opinions stayed the same, here are a few more things I’d like to add. The game's soundtrack is wonderful, with “Mutants over Broadway!” and “We Ain’t Came to Lose” being some of my favorite tracks. While I had a blast playing solo, this game is best played in co-op with some friends. If you’re looking for a great throwback to the classic TMNT Beat ‘em Ups of yesteryear, then look no further.

Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection. I’ve only just started the first Uncharted game, but I’m already having a great time. I’m planning on working my way through the series later on when I have extra time, but in the meantime, I’ll continue playing through the first game.

Neon White. I finished the game and really enjoyed it. I originally thought Elden Ring would never be challenged in my game of the year spot for 2022, but Neon White has the potential to best it. The incredible speedrun-designed gameplay and good story make this title a quick recommendation for Switch and PC gamers.

Portal Companion Collection. I’ve finished Portal and played about an hour of Portal 2 so far. I really love both of these games, and replaying them on Switch has been a blast. If you’ve never played these classic titles and want to see what the hype is about, this is a great way to give them a try.

We didn't receive any community submissions this week, but you can send your submissions to our email: contact@elevategames.net. I may also ask what games you’ve been playing recently on my social media accounts and on my Discord that you can join here. You can either submit the name of a game/s you've been playing or a bunch of text explaining what you enjoy (or don't) about that/these game/s. I look forward to hearing about what game/s you've been playing. Thanks.

This has been this week's What Ya Playing Wednesday. I'll see you all in two weeks for another article about what games you and I have recently played and/or enjoyed.

Thanks for reading and Game On!!
