What Ya Playing Wednesday

By: Evan1Sonic. It's Wednesday, which means it's time to talk about the games you and I have played and/or enjoyed this past week. More information about where to send your submissions to be featured in the series will be at the bottom of this post. This week I've been playing Marvel Snap and finished Dredge’s Demo and Live by the Sword: Tactics.

Marvel Snap is a collectible card game from Second Dinner. I’m currently at collection level two hundred and fourteen, season pass level forty, and rank thirty-one. No time is wasted getting you into the action with this title. There is a tutorial, but it teaches you the basics as you play, and it didn’t drag on. This action is where Marvel Snap shines, and every time I load into a match, I have a fun time battling my opponent over the control of three different locations. Upgrading and unlocking new cards is another big part of the game. The rate at which this happens is great, and I find that there's always a new card to experiment with. There sadly isn’t any option to unlock certain cards as they are randomly selected, but I liked the surprise of getting a new card. I’ve only played around with creating the perfect custom deck, but so far I’m impressed with the number of options for synergy between cards. There are microtransactions in this title, and while they’re purely cosmetic, I can understand how this might discourage many from playing this collectible card title. I have avoided purchasing anything in the game and will continue to do so, but the paid season pass upgrades have intrigued me. Marvel Snap is incredible, and while I’m not a fan of its monetization plan, I’m loving collecting my favorite Marvel characters in card form and bringing them to battle with me. I’m going to continue playing daily, though I’m unsure how long the game will be able to maintain my attention. If you’re able to look past the microtransactions, I highly recommend you give this free-to-play game a try. Marvel Snap is available on IOS, Android, and PC (currently in early access).

Quick Play is this section of What Ya Playing where I share some of my short thoughts on games I’ve been playing lately.

Dredge Demo. I finished the Steam demo of this game and had a great time with it. Stunning graphics and an engaging gameplay loop combine to create a joyful demo. If you enjoy fishing games and managing your inventory, then you should give this demo a try. While my experience playing through this full demo was short, it left me wanting more, and I’m now keeping an eye out for when Dredge releases next year.

Live by the Sword: Tactics. I’ve finished this game and had a fair time with it. I received a code for this tactics title from Gravity Game Arise on behalf of Labrador Studios. While I have some criticisms of Live by the Sword: Tactics, it's a nice homage to classic tactics titles of yesteryear. Stay tuned for my full review of this game, which is coming soon.

We didn't receive any community submissions this week, but you can send your submissions to our email: contact@elevategames.net. I may also ask what games you’ve been playing recently on our social media accounts and on our Discord that you can join here. You can either submit the name of a game/s you've been playing or a bunch of text explaining what you enjoy (or don't) about that/these game/s. I look forward to hearing about what game/s you've been playing. Thanks.
