A new PlayStation State of Play is coming on June 2nd. Sony has announced that their next State of Play, which will focus on new game announcements and more, will stream on June 2nd at 6 p.m. Eastern (3 p.m. Pacific). According to the PlayStation Blog, the event will last 30 minutes and feature "exciting reveals from our third-party partners." Because the post makes no mention of first-party titles, it seems that we won't be hearing anything about God of War: Ragnarok or Marvel's Spider-Man 2 at this event. We will also get a "sneak peek" at PlayStation VR2 titles, according to Sony. Hopefully, we’ll get some exciting game announcements at this event, but in any case, we'll be recapping everything that was shown at the event. If you’d like to read more about the event, you can read our article about it here.
The sequel to Jedi: Fallen Order Jedi: Survivor is coming in 2023. The second day of Star Wars Celebration 2022 saw the announcement of a new Star Wars video game, Jedi: Survivor, the sequel to Jedi: Fallen Order. Cal Kestis, force wielder, will continue his adventure in this new title. The odds appear to be stacked against Cal in the game's brief teaser trailer, which is linked below. Only Kestis and his droid BD-1 from Fallen Order are shown in the video, though Greez's spaceship, the Stinger Mantis, is visible from the cockpit, empty and in the middle of a desert. We also catch a glimpse of the trailer's potential antagonist, who narrates it, as well as a mysterious individual kept in a tube, whose identity no one seems to know. According to a press release, five years after the events of Fallen Order, Cal "begins to feel the pressure of being one of the last remaining Jedi in the galaxy." In this new adventure, where he will encounter new and interesting characters, Cal will learn new methods to tap into the Force. The game will expand on the combat system from the original. Asmussen (the games director) says, “We're leveraging advanced technology to create more dynamic Jedi combat and cinematic storytelling to expand on Cal's story as he matures and survives during the dark times.” This game appears to be a strong improvement on the already great Jedi: Fallen Order and will hopefully be an incredible continuation of Cal's journey. You can watch the teaser for this Star Wars title here. Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is coming to PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC in 2023.
Sony announces a God of War series, a Horizon show, and a Gran Turismo project. As revealed in an investor briefing and confirmed by industry insiders, Jim Ryan (the president of Sony) said during a Q & A that the company was expanding its entertainment adaptations even further. While we already knew about projects such as a Last of Us show set to air with HBO and a Twisted Metal show set with Peacock, we learned today about a few additional TV shows planned for the future. These projects are a Horizon show with Netflix, a God of War show with Amazon, and a Gran Turismo project with an as-yet-unannounced platform or network. While we don’t know anything further about these TV shows, it’s great to see Sony bringing some of PlayStation’s biggest games to the small screen.
Forspoken has been rated in Europe. Square Enix’s newest IP, Forspoken, has received a PEGI rating in Europe. Because of the realistic and fantasy violence, as well as the "use of strong language ('f**k'), as well as milder terms," the game acquired an 18+ rating. The inclusion of in-game purchases (this is just the deluxe edition DLC) and the use of alcohol are also both cited as reasons for the high rating. You can get a beer in Forspoken at a bar, and “The drinks affect the player’s statistics, but do so in a random manner with negative outcomes possible.” “The game also includes scenes of realistic violence, including a woman being set upon by a group of thugs who punch and kick her and hold a gun to her head," the rating board adds. “There is also violence against fantasy characters, who are knocked backwards by attacks and bleed yellow blood.” Frey (the main character) plans to drunkenly take her own life, before being saved by a mysterious entity at one point in the game. While the game could always receive a lower rating in the US, I doubt it will receive anything less than an M (mature). Forspoken will be released on October 11, 2022 for PS5 and PC.
