Sunday Scoops 09/11/22
It’s Sunday, and that means it's time to talk about all the gaming news this week
By: Evan1Sonic. This week has been a big week of news, with the reveal of some new Assassin’s Creed titles, news from the recent Disney and Marvel Games Showcase, a new version of the Xbox Elite Series 2 controller being announced, and more.
News From the Recent Ubisoft Forward. The Ubisoft Forward event that aired on September 10th featured lots of new games and updates on previously announced titles from Ubisoft. Some of these games include Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope, Tom Clancy’s The Division Heartland, and Skull and Bones. Some other highlights were Trackmania being announced to be coming to consoles in early 2023, a new mobile title in the Assassin's Creed universe, Project Jade, being announced, and a Netflix partnership that will bring a live-action Assassin’s Creed series and a new game in the franchise to Netflix. To close out the event, we learned about a few new Assassin’s Creed projects in development. The first of these projects, Assassin's Creed Mirage, is a linear story-driven adventure game that harkens back to the earlier franchise's games' traditional design. Twenty years before the events of Assassin's Creed Valhalla, in the city of Baghdad, the game places you in the role of Basim Ibn Ishaq. Additionally, the RPG structure of modern titles in the series is absent in this game. Assassin's Creed Mirage launches on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Luna, and PC in 2023. Assassin's Creed Valhalla’s next DLC, The Last Chapter, was revealed in a short teaser trailer. Ubisoft says that this free DLC will wrap up storylines when it releases later this year. The next two games will be referred to by their codenames as they don't yet have official names. The first of these two, Assassin's Creed Codename Red, is set in Feudal Japan. Following the release of Assassin's Creed Mirage, this game will serve as the franchise's next mainline entry. Sadly, no additional information on the title was provided during the event, but we can hope to hear more about it soon. The other currently unnamed game, Assassin's Creed Codename Hexe, was also revealed. A wooden Assassin's Insignia was shown hanging over an open flame in the brief yet intriguing teaser for this title. This game will be "a very different type of Assassins' Creed game," according to Ubisoft, and it won’t be an RPG. The final announcement was Assassin's Creed Infinity, a type of hub for upcoming Assassin's Creed content. Infinity will serve as "the single entry point into the Assassin's Creed franchise into the future," according to the series' franchise producer Marc-Alexis Cote. The service was also referred to as "a hub that will unite all of our experiences and our players, together in meaningful ways." While it's currently unclear what this means, hopefully, more details on Assassin’s Creed Infinity will be available soon. This event provided a nice look at what to expect from Ubisoft in the future, and you can watch the full showcase here.
News From the Disney and Marvel Games Showcase. The Disney and Marvel Games Showcase event that aired on August 9th featured over a dozen titles under the Disney umbrella. Some of these games include Tron Identity, The Return to Monkey Island, Disney Illusion Island, and Avatar Reckoning. Some other highlights were Midnight Suns locking in a release date of December 2nd, 2022; Skydance New Media’s Marvel project being revealed to be a World War II-era narrative-driven adventure game starring Captain America and Black Panther; and Marvel Snap getting a release date of October 18th, 2022. To round out the show, we got a short teaser for Marvel World of Heroes, a new Niantic title set that is set for release in 2023. You can watch the full event here.
