By: Evan1Sonic. From Tekken 8 to God of War Ragnarök, here is a recap of everything shown at this month's PlayStation State of Play. All of the release dates listed here are for the PlayStation 4, PSVR2, and PlayStation 5 versions of the games, specifically.
Tekken 8 is a fighting game from Bandai Namco Studios. Two opponents engaged in a tense fight in the rain in the trailer shown at this event. While the trailer looks like a pre-rendered cinematic, a post on the PlayStation blog from game director Katsuhiro Harada explains that it is actually showcasing footage rendered in real-time on the PS5. Before explaining that the dynamic waves and tornadoes in the background would actually be effects employed in stages during fights, Harada states, "The Tekken series has always been known for the dramatic pre-rendered movies from its story mode. Additionally, the story for this entry will focus on Kazuya vs. Jin. The game is still in development, so it’ll likely be a little while before the game releases, but Tekken 8 will launch on PS5 in the future.
Star Wars Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge - Enhanced Edition is an action-adventure VR game from ILMxLAB. This game, which has been rebuilt to make the most of the PS VR2's capabilities, sets out to fully immerse you in the Star Wars universe. “When players look around, eye-tracking cameras built into the headset will follow their line of sight, with advanced foveated rendering techniques furthering the visual experience while dynamic soundscapes surround them in rich 3D audio. Players will also feel interactions with the world around them through headset feedback, and adaptive triggers and haptic feedback thanks to the PS VR2 Sense controllers, providing an even stronger sense of immersion.” according to ILMxLAB. Experience a galaxy far, far away in Virtual Reality when Star Wars Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge - Enhanced Edition launches on PS VR2 in 2023.
Demeo, the roguelite tabletop RPG VR game from Resolution Games, is coming to PS VR2. This game emphasizes planning and interaction at the table, simulating the experience of staking out dungeons with companions while moving figurines around the game board and rolling dice. Roleplay with friends and make it through every dungeon when Demeo launches on PS VR2 soon.
Like a Dragon: Ishin! is an action-adventure game from Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio. Like a Dragon: Ishin! is a remake of the PS3 and PS4 title Yakuza: Ishin! that was never released in the United States, until now. This game puts you in the role of the samurai Sakamoto Ryoma and is set in the 1860s in Kyo, a fictional version of Kyoto. This remake is made using Unreal Engine 4 and will feature upgraded textures and more. Use a katana, revolver, and even your bare fists to defeat any opponents in your path when Like a Dragon Ishin launches on PS4 and PS5 in February 2023.
Hogwarts Legacy is an action-RPG game from Avalanche Software. The store of Madame Mason is featured in the new trailer; she seems to be attempting to sell it, but there appears to be a mysterious reason for her desire to do so. This eerie trailer continues to showcase a cellar and unsettling mannequins before revealing that this is all a part of the "The Haunted Hogsmeade Shop" quest, which is exclusively available on PlayStation consoles. This quest offers an additional dungeon, a cosmetic set, and an in-game shop. Become the witch or wizard you want to be when Hogwarts Legacy launches for PS4 and PS5 on February 10th, 2023.
Pacific Drive is a first-person roguelike survival game from Ironwood Studios. The opening sequence of the trailer for this title shows a typical-looking car gently making its way through a dark evening in the Pacific Northwest. However, this is no normal automobile. A futuristic display can be found on the dashboard, and different attachments, some of which illuminate, are mounted to the side panels and hood. When the camera peers out, it's obvious that this vehicle is actually a beast, which is vital because the environment around it also seems to be somewhat monstrous. "Your car is your only companion as you navigate a surreal and anomaly-filled reimagining of the Pacific Northwest," says developer Ironwood Studios. Survive the hazardous world around you when Pacific Drive launches on in 2023.
More Details on PlayStation Stars. Some new details on PlayStation's new loyalty program were revealed at this event. By completing various tasks and missions, you can earn rewards with this service. Some examples include the monthly task of playing a game, or other missions such as winning tournaments, obtaining particular trophies, or even being the first person in your time zone to platinum a new game. Along with points, you’ll be able to earn digital collectibles for completing specific missions. These collectibles are digital representations of things that PlayStation fans enjoy, including figurines of beloved and iconic characters from games as well as cherished devices that tap into Sony’s history of innovation. These collectibles will be earned primarily through campaigns. After being earned, they can be arranged in a virtual display case within the PS App or your PSN profile. PlayStation Stars will launch first on the PS App later this year, with console integration coming at some point after that.
Synduality is a sci-fi third-person shooter game from Bamco. Years after a mysterious poisonous rain called “The Tears of the New Moon” wiped out most of humanity and birthed deformed creatures that now hunt the population this game is set in 2222. In the midst of the disaster, humanity are compelled to construct Amasia, a subterranean refuge where they meet and start working with Magus, artificial intelligence forms. They now have to endure the perilous environment above them and defend themselves from xenomorphic foes. Set yourself into the shoes of a drifter and defeat xenomorphic creatures when Syn Duality launches on PS5 in 2023.
Stellar Blade is an action RPG game from Shift Up. This game, formerly known as Project Eve, centers on a young woman named Eve in a post-apocalyptic setting as she fights off monsters known as NA:tives who have invaded Earth. The latest trailer provided another glimpse into the plot while also showcasing some of Stellar Blade's slashy gameplay and stunning visuals. We also saw a place named Xion, the city of the abandoned, where it appeared that thousands of people were in a deep sleep due to energy depletion. Fend off the NA:tives and protect Earth when Stellar Blade launches on PS5 in 2023.
Rise of the Ronin is an open-world action RPG game from Team Ninja. The game places the player in a period of profound technological and political change as it is set in1863, about ten years after Commodore Matthew Perry severed Japan's isolation from the West. Play as a nomadic Ronin and navigate a broken nation when Rise of the Ronin launches on PS5 in 2024.
God of War Ragnarök is an action-adventure game from Santa Monica Studio. Kratos appears to be following his son's example this time around, according to the new trailer presented at this event, which teases a deep narrative. Together, they will determine whether they are constrained by destiny and prophecy or could shape their own future. They will do this while advancing through a beautiful world and engaging in frantic combat while brandishing weapons like the Blades of Chaos and Leviathan Axe. God of War Ragnarök launches for PS4 and PS5 on November 9th, 2022. Also, a limited edition God of War Ragnarök-themed DualSense controller was showcased to launch alongside the game.
This event was slightly above average and provided a good look at what games are coming to Sony's platforms in the future. My favorite game shown at this event was God of War Ragnarök. I enjoyed playing through God of War (2018) earlier this year, and this sequel looks fantastic and has me hotly anticipating its November release date. You can watch the full event here.
