What Ya Playing 10/19/22
Trifox is an action-platformer game from Glowfish Interactive. I’ve finished this game with 78% completion. In this game, a fox finds his TV remote missing when he gets home following a burglary. This multi-talented creature then sets out on a mission to retrieve his remote and bring peace back to his house. The story, while not being one of the game's focuses and not something that blew me away, filled the gaps between gameplay well and was charming from beginning to end. The game set out to recreate a Mascot-era platformer, and it did a wonderful job of doing so. It is not as polished and refined as other games in the genre, but once I got used to the controls, each jump felt good to execute. The platforming is only half of the gameplay, and the twin-stick shooter-style combat plays a big role as well. This combat feels good but does become repetitive fairly quickly if you don’t switch out loadouts occasionally. Sadly the enemies either were a breeze to defeat or felt too damage spongy with very few breaking this pattern. Although the gameplay has some issues as a whole, it is the highlight of Trifox. Although I had a lot of fun playing this game, it falls short when compared to other games of a similar ilk. If you’d like to learn more about the game, I wrote a full review of it that you can read here. Look no further if you're searching for a good platformer game to play, just go into it with tempered expectations. I would also like to express my thanks to Pirate PR for providing a review code for this game. Trifox is available on Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Switch, and PC.
Quick Play is this section of What Ya Playing where I share some of my short thoughts on games I’ve been playing lately.
Slime Rancher 2. I’m about five hours into the game. The game has a nice gameplay loop, and I’m finding it relaxing to manage my ranch. Since the game is in early access, there's a lot of content missing, but currently, it's worth playing. I never played the first Slime Rancher game, but I’m thinking about picking it up after my experience with the sequel. If you’re looking for a nice sim game slime, Rancher 2 is a great choice. It’s also available with Xbox and PC Game Pass.
The Knight Witch Demo. I finished the Steam demo of this title. While I didn’t love the story and felt there was too much dialogue, I don’t have many critiques. The beautiful visuals and great twin-stick and bullet hell-style combat combined to create a fun, though short, demo. The demo has me excited to continue playing when the full game releases this November. If you enjoy twin-stick style combat and are willing to digest a lot of lore, then give the game's demo a try.
We didn't receive any community submissions this week, but you can send your submissions to our email: contact@elevategames.net. You can either submit the name of a game/s you've been playing or a bunch of text explaining what you enjoy (or don't) about that/these game/s. I look forward to hearing about what game/s you've been playing. Thanks.
This has been this week's What Ya Playing Wednesday. I'll see you all soon for another article about what games you and I have recently played and/or enjoyed.
