Nintendo Direct February 2022 Recap: Part 2.

By: Evan1Sonic. From Portal: Companion Collection to Xenoblade Chronicles 3, here is a recap of all of the games shown at this month's Nintendo Direct (Part 2). All of the release dates listed here are for the Switch.

Portal: Companion Collection is a compilation of Valve Corporation's two Portal first-person puzzle games. Portal the hit game that started the series, along with Portal 2, are both truly incredible games that you can now experience or re-experience on the Switch. Portal: Companion Collection launches at some point in 2022.

Live A Live, the 1994 Square Enix RPG game, is making its way to the US with this remake. This remake uses the HD-2D engine originally used to make Octopath Traveler. You can play these eras in whichever order you'd like, with the story of each one connecting to the other. Live A Live launches on July 22, 2022.

Nintendo Switch Sports is a new sports title from Nintendo EPD. Similar to Wii Sports, you will use the Joy-Cons to track your motions while playing the game. The game will include tennis, bowling, chambara, soccer, badminton, and volleyball. Nintendo also announced two free updates coming later this year. One in the summer adds support with a leg strap accessory for playing a soccer shootout, and another in the fall adds golf. There will be a free online playtest with limited features for Nintendo Switch Online members. This playtest will be available from February 18th to February 20th. Nintendo Switch Sports launches on April 29th, 2022.

Taiko no Tatsujin Rhythm Festival is a rhythm game from Bandai Namco Entertainment. Drum to the beat in seventy-six songs, including an orchestral version of the main theme from The Legend of Zelda. This demo is available now with the ability to transfer your progress in this demo to the full game. Triangle Strategy launches on March 4th, 2022.

Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course is DLC for the beautiful, run-and-gun action indie game Cuphead. Play in new levels, battle against new bosses, use new weapons and charms, and play as a new character in this DLC. Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course launches on June 30th, 2022.

Metroid Dread, the action-adventure Metroidvania game, is getting free updates. The first update, which is available today, adds two new difficulty options. The Dread Mode is a new mode where if you take any damage, you'll get an instant game over screen. There's also a Rookie Mode being added. This mode makes the game easier by lowering the damage taken from bosses, increasing your missile capacity, and more. The second update, which is slated for April 2022, will add a new mode. This new mode is a boss rush where you'll face off against multiple bosses in a row. Metroid Dread was released on October 8th, 2021, and is my 5th favorite game of 2021.

EarthBound and Earthbound Beginnings are finally on Switch. Earthbound Beginnings and Earthbound, or Mother and Mother 2, as they are known as in Japan, are now available on the Switch. Sadly, there was no mention of Mother 3 at this event. The games are now available through Nintendo's online membership.

There will be eight courses over six waves, with forty-eight tracks in total. The first wave, which includes Coconut Mall, Tokyo Blur, and more, will launch on March 18th, 2022. Expansion pack members get this DLC for free with their membership.

Xenoblade Chronicles 3, the third mainline entry in the Xenoblade Chronicles series, is coming to Switch this year. Protagonists Noah and Mio are in the middle of a disruption between the opposing nations of Keves and Agnus in this action RPG game. Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is launching in September 2022.

This event was very exciting, with a bunch of new and old games making an appearance. Big new titles like Xenoblade Chronicles 3 and Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes were shown, as well as smaller games like Disney Speedstorm and Two Point Campus. My favorite game shown was Live A Live. I'd never heard of the game before this event, but it looks like a great JRPG. You can watch the full event here. This is the second half of what was shown at this month's Direct; part one can be found here.

Thanks for reading and Game On!!
