PlayStation State of Play February 2022 News
Gran Turismo 7 is the newest entry in the sim racing series Gran Turismo. This game is designed for all players to enjoy, whether they're a hardcore GT fan or brand new to the series. The World Map serves as the game's hub, with each activity and shop depicted as an icon on the map. The GT Cafe, the icon in the map's center is a new addition to the series. At the cafe, you will be given a car collection menu. To complete each menu you must win races and championships. Occasionally, the designers of one of these cars will appear in-person to discuss the design. By completing menus at the cafe you will naturally come into contact with the history of automobiles and the culture that surrounds them. You can either go to Brand Central, Used Car Dealer, or Legendary Car Dealer to purchase a car. Roughly 300 car models from 2001 and later are available at Brand Central. This is the general shop for cars. Along with the showrooms where you can buy automobiles, each manufacturer has its own museum where you can learn about their history. At the Used Car Dealer, you can purchase cars for more affordable prices but some very popular cars may be sold at an even higher price compared to when they were originally released. Take, for example, Japanese sports cars of the 90s. This used car lineup will be updated and changed slightly every day. Finally, iconic cars such as the Jeep Willys MB '45 can be purchased at the Legendary Car Dealership. There are over 400 cars in the game with more tracks and cars coming after release.
In the tuning shop, you can customize your vehicles. There are approximately 60 types of performance parts to chose from per car. By combing these you can change the performance and overall driving experience of any car. There are so many things you can tweak and change with each car using the tuning menu. Car customization at GT Auto allows you to change each car's appearance. There are over 650 aerodynamic parts, 130 types of wheels, 1200 colors of measured paint data, and more. Several dozen types of parts per car, totaling to several thousand customization parts to choose from. In comparison to previous GT games, the Livery editor for painting and customizing automobiles has also been improved. You can now apply stickers to areas where you previously couldn't, and the amount of stickers you can put on your car has been increased. You can also give your cars an oil change and car wash.
In the World Circuit location, you'll have access to a variety of tracks. At launch GT 7 will feature 34 locations and over 90 layouts, including real-world and fantasy circuits. Trial Mountain, Deep Forest, and High-Speed Ring, among other legendary fantasy tracks from previous GT games, return in GT7. In the custom race mode, you can combine things like weather conditions and AI cars of your choice to make a custom race of your own design. You can master driving techniques from the ground up in the License tests. These skills are learned through a variety of short mini-games. Mission Races is where you'll find unique events beyond typical events and time trials such as drag racing and drift trials. GT7 will have a two-player split-screen mode as well as online lobbies and meeting places for you to enjoy with your friends online. You can also race with random people from around the world online in Sport mode. The Music Ralley is a new mode for those who enjoy driving around while listening to music. It's a race with a countdown timer with the goal of breaking a new record for the most miles traveled.
The PS5 version of the game uses Raytracing to create photorealistic visuals. With the PS5's adaptive triggers and haptic vibrations, the game will feel more immersive. Because of the adaptive Triggers, you will feel a tire lock state while breaking. You'll also be able to feel the state of the front tires thanks to the haptic vibrations. All of this combined should make you feel as if you're holding the steering wheel of a real car. 3D audio will also be used to help with sound immersion. You'll be able to hear where fellow racer's cars are in comparison to your own and more. The weather tech used in GT7 allows the team to create realistic simulated weather. Japan's sky will change as it does in Japan, and California's skies will change as they do in California. You'll be able to see planets as well as stars at night. The moon will rise and set the same way the sun rises and sets. Depending on whether the atmosphere is clear or cloudy, the hue of the stars will change. If it rains the course becomes wet and slowly starts to build puddles. When it stops raining the course will begin to dry from the sections that would tend to dry first in real life. These are just a few examples of the realistic weather in this game. You will have a raincloud radar, which will help you predict the weather to a certain extent.
You can watch race replays, but the new feature, the Music Replay provides a more enjoyable replay experience. This replay mode will dynamically generate a replay camera to match the background music. The replay is different every time you watch it since the camera positions and image cuts are generated at random to match the music. Scapes is a photography-focused mode in which you can place a car of your choice in over 2500 spots around the world. You can also take photos of a race you've participated in with The Race Photo Mode. All of these photo modes look fantastic, with a vast selection of options and filters to help you get the perfect shot. Showcase is where you can post replays, photos, livery designs, and more. It functions and looks similar to other social media platforms.
This game is shaping up to be a great racing title that anyone can enjoy. It stands out from past Gran Turismo games thanks to new features like The Music Ralley and Music Replay. Gran Turismo 7 is coming to PS4 and PS5 on March 4th, 2022.
